Antwerp Weather
Pleasant summers
Antwerp city breaks can experience pleasant summers with average temperatures of around 16°C. The climate is not dissimilar to that of the UK, with wet days interspersed with sunshine. The city sparkles when the sun does shine however, meaning twilight can be enjoyed for hours. A good range of summer events also makes Antwerp in the summer one of the favourite times for tourists to visit, especially as most Belgians take holidays to the Mediterranean at this time meaning the city is not so busy commercially and some good deals can be found on accommodation. Unfortunately, July and August can also be the wettest months.
Severe winters
The average daily minimum temperature in Antwerp throughout the relatively mild winter season is 3°C (32°F) and the maximum is 6°C (43°F). Winters can be severe in Antwerp, with an incoming Baltic wind dropping temperatures below freezing. However, this can be ideal for Christmas city breaks as the city is covered in fresh snow and perfect for ice-skating around the plaza. Rain can be expected from November to March
Spring and autumn
Antwerp during spring and autumn is relatively cool as the temperature can reach 0°C. The weather at this time of year is also the most unpredictable and Antwerp has quite changeable weather throughout the year. Bright sunshine is often interrupted by rain, which results in mild summers and cool springs and autumns. As Antwerp is a port city, it is often on the receiving end of freezing winds from the Baltic Sea, ensuring cold winters.
