The bustling Christmas markets are held in the squares around the Cathedral. With hot food stalls, the smell of hot chestnuts and toasted almonds fills the air. There is the opportunity for sleigh rides, followed up with a healthy helping of robust Austrian sausage. There are other markets dotted around the city also.

 

• Opening hours:  Mon - Thurs 10am - 10.30pm, Sat 9am - 9pm, Sun 9am - 8.30pm

Vienna Christmas Markets - 14 November 2009 - 24 December 2009
Vienna's Christkindlmarkt, by the town hall, dates back several hundred years. The wooden huts house all sorts of festive fare and gifts. There is a children’s workshop for making cookies, traditional fairground rides and choirs singing carols.

Theresien Place 10am – 10pm, 24 Dec 11am – 3pm
Spittelberg Mon-Fri 2pm –   9pm, Sat-Sun  10am – 9pm
