Running Of The Bulls – Europe’s most thrilling festival
The San Fermin Festival takes place in July at Pamplona in the northern Spanish province of Navarra and is perhaps the most exciting and spectacular festival in Europe. This is due to the event known as the “running of the bulls” which has had a colourful history and brought to world attention by the writer Earnest Hemingway. A half mile stretch of winding cobbled streets sees the release of a dozen 600 kg bulls as fearless – some would say foolhardy – competitors, attempt to outrun these frightening beasts to the finish line at the town bullring. Tension and nerves are uninhibited as the whole town awaits this spectacle in a real carnival atmosphere.

Pamplona Bull Run – A spectacular carnival atmosphere
The Running of The Bulls is certainly not for the faint hearted, whether actively involved or merely watching, the streets are awash with nervous energy and barely restrained excitement as every possible vantage point is packed with revellers. Throughout the festival, Pamplona is buzzing with non stop partying, music concerts, traditional carnival and plenty of unique street entertainment for all ages. Nights see bull fighting and open air dancing well into the early hours and its endearing popularity sees accommodation and transport to the event booked out months in advance.

Running of the Bulls – Explore the beauty of Bilbao
A short break in the picturesque city of Bilbao makes the ideal base for the Running of The Bulls with plenty of other cultural attractions and sightseeing to enjoy. Combine the thrill of the chase at Pamplona with a day exploring nearby at the modernist Guggenheim Museum or Euskalduna Palace – two of the most charismatic buildings in Europe. Eating out is an art form and an essential part of any Bilbao city break where you can savour exquisite Basque country seafood snacks, pastries and wine.
