Bologna Weather

Bologna weather – Be prepared
Bologna – along with most of the inland northern areas of Italy, including Turin and Milan – enjoys a continental climate. This is characterised by winter temperatures cold enough to support a fixed period of stable snow cover each year, and relatively moderate precipitation occurring mostly in summer. The moderating influence of the sea and the protection given by the Alpine barrier from the cold north winds combine to give Italy, in general, a temperate climate. Spring-like temperatures occur between early March in the southern parts, and to mid April in the far northern fringes.

Weather in Bologna – Can get very hot!
The summer is hot and dry with average temperatures topping 30C in July and August. Bologna, like much of Italy, is extremely hot in July and August but, with its miles of protective archways, the city offers shade during this time. In this climate zone, average summer temperatures are between 21C and 32C during the day and 10C and 18C at night. Ensure you pack your sunglasses and appropriate sun protection for the skin if you travel in the summer months.

Bologna winter weather – Chilly but bearable
In the winter, the weather in northern Italy can be cold and fairly unpredictable from November to February, when Bologna is at its most quiet. The coldest month is January when the average temperature dips to around 5C. In mountain areas, winter is ideal for skiing. Average winter temperatures are –12C and 7C during the day and 23C and 4C at night. A Bologna city break at this time of year will require a warm coat, gloves, scarves and a hat!
