Boston Weather - Offering a climate for all seasons
Boston has a typical temperate climate yet experiences extreme ranges of weather and temperature through the year. This can result in summer heat waves of up to 36c and bitterly cold winter spells with heavy snowfall. Year round the weather can be changeable and rainfall is possible at any time. This is one of the less sunny regions of the USA and this is further impacted in the city by winter fog and mist on occasions. Within the city during hot spells, humidity can be high and uncomfortable. Along the coast cool winds reduce the impact of this but waters can be choppy during autumn and winter which can sometimes affect pleasure cruises and ferry crossings.

Summer weather in Boston is fairly changeable yet it receives more sunshine than for example, Northern Europe. Day-to-day changes in temperature can be significant and rainfall is possible at any time. Average summer temperatures range from 18-20c but during isolated heat waves it can rise as high as 36c. Up to 10 hours of daylight sunshine can be enjoyed in Boston in July. There is surprisingly high humidity in the city during summertime although it should not have a major effect on sightseeing. There are often long spells of dry and fine settled weather in Boston during June and July and late September normally sees the start of more variable conditions which include gradually stronger coastal winds.

Autumn in Boston enjoys mild and fresh days with the surrounding countryside at its most dazzling, full of rich colour. This gives way to a deep blanket of snow during January and February that is sometimes prolonged and severe. Public transport may be affected and evenings can be bitterly cold, however late afternoons may see a little crisp, warm sunshine. Rainfall is at its heaviest in March and April with sharp, sudden downpours but these months also see a good amount of mild sunshine. Winter temperatures reach up to 9c with 5 or 6 hours of sunshine.
