Cannes City Breaks

Little more than a tiny fishing village in the 19th century, Cannes has grown at a startling rate into the sophisticated millionaire’s playground we see today. All its hype is fully justified and a Cannes short break will gaze in wonder at its golden beaches and azure Mediterranean waters. Not known particularly for its historic sights, a weekend break in Cannes will nevertheless find plenty of traditional charm and captivating architecture in the winding cobbled streets of Le Suquet old town. It is a maze of bustling markets and squares that offer a fabulous view of the harbor and ocean. 

 

While this jewel of the Cote d’Azur luxuriates in its own exclusivity, budget city breaks in Cannes can be just as rewarding and certainly won’t break the bank. Affordable guesthouses and cheap eats can be found within walking distance of the seafront and the time honoured pursuit of people watching along glamorous La Croisette promenade doesn’t cost a penny. A stroll among the supersized luxury yachts in the port is a must too, guaranteed to produce a few envious glances. Of course a French city break during the Cannes Film festival will be dripping in A list glamour and a whirlwind of lavish parties. While getting into the inner sanctum of the Hollywood set may be just a dream, simply being there and soaking up the glitzy atmosphere will be a memorable experience.

 

 

There are a few intriguing sights and historic attractions to take your mind off the tanned beautiful people of Cannes beach during a summer weekend break. The medieval Notre-Dame d'Esperance church and the reputedly haunted Tour de Masque are both worth exploring as is the compact but very enlightening Museum of Art and History. Some people may reel in shock during a cheap break in Cannes at the price tags of the flashy fashion boutiques but good value can be found at Rue Meynadier. This is a vibrant local market with plenty of tempting gourmet foods and cheap souvenirs to bargain for.
