Carcassonne Weather - Sunshine for 300 days a year
Carcassonne enjoys a Mediterranean type climate that can be intense at times with extreme ranges of temperature from stifling summer heat to the bitter cold of winter mornings. It receives 300 days of sunshine each year but also copious amounts of rainfall in autumn and springtime. After the hot sunshine of summer the region becomes very changeable and heavy downpours can occur for days on end. For many visitors May and June is the ideal time as the landscape is carpeted in colourful wildflowers and days are sunny and warm. From May onwards, rivers and canals are warm enough for swimming. Carcassonne weather does see mini heat waves each year, usually in July or early August where temperatures can rise into the high 30 and nights can be uncomfortably hot.

Summertime sees Carcassonne at its busiest when thousands of tourists from home and abroad descend on its streets to admire its historic attractions. May and June enjoys warm sunshine and very little rainfall that is perfect weather for strolling along the medieval streets or exploring the countryside. Early August is when Carcassonne weather is at its hottest, temperatures can reach up to 35c at times and up to 10 hours of daily sunshine is enjoyed. Temperatures gradually drop towards the beginning of September as the weather becomes more variable and cloudy skies and intermittent rain showers are likely. Either side of the hottest months, winds can be fairly strong but are very unlikely to disrupt a city break in Carcassonne.

Winter weather in Carcassonne sees many clear and sunny skies but during midwinter mornings can seem bitterly cold especially in January and February when frost is common. Temperatures at this time are unlikely to rise much above 8c during these months and around 5 hours of sunshine can be had. Carcassonne is in a lowland region so the chance of snowfall is very low. Although it can be extremely changeable between October and March, long spells of uninterrupted mild sunshine is possible. Outside January and February walking and boating is still very enjoyable without any detrimental effects from the weather. Roads and waterways are deserted and the landscape remains remarkably lush and green due to regular rainfall.
