Christmas in Bruges

Christmas in Bruges - A fairytale city for the festive season
A city of quaint medieval gabled houses, charming cobblestone squares and majestic horse drawn carriages meandering through the narrow streets, Bruges is an enchanting city to visit at any time of year and the festive season sees it come alive with yuletide fun and magical attractions. Christmas in Bruges is all about tradition and history and the simple pleasures of soaking up its festive and fun loving atmosphere. Its spectacular buildings are bedecked in subtle lighting and decorations that only enhance their beauty and a leisurely stroll will enjoy the dulcet tones of carol singers ringing out and the tempting smells of freshly baked gingerbread and mulled wine.

Christmas in Bruges - A magical Christmas marketplace
Markt Square is the focus of much of Bruges’s festive activity where its famous Yuletide market displays gourmet delights, handicrafts, antiques and lace surrounding a central open air ice rink - a hive of family friendly fun. Each stall is illuminated by elegant Christmas lights and each with its very own artistically decorated crib or nativity scene. Nearby the famous 13th century Belfry stands proud in vivid colour which offers the most wonderful panoramic views of the skyline from its top, a must during any Christmas in Bruges. Christmas Eve sees the traditional city procession of actors, choirs and dancers faithfully recreating the Christmas story as it passes through the streets. It provides a magical blend of comedy, music and carnival not unlike an old style circus parade and a great spectacle for children.

Christmas in Bruges - A laid back night of celebration and entertainment
Nigh time sees the Bruges Concert Hall come alive to the sound of extravagant choral concerts and ballet performances which include special shows just for children and many of the city's bars have live jazz, rock and folk music and dancing. Christmas in Bruges will see many of these hostelries featuring special festive beers just for the holiday season - rich, dark and strong ales such as Bush de Noel and Glühkriek that will perfectly compliment a hearty dinner. An even wider variety of Christmas brews, including super strong trappist beers can be sampled at the De Gouden Boom Brewery Museum and renowned Straffe Hendrik Brewery throughout the Christmas period.
