Dublin Getting Around
Dublin Airport
Getting from Dublin Airport is easy. Dublin airport is just 7 miles from the city. The best way from Dublin airport to the centre is probably by bus. Several buses run regularly to most parts of Dublin throughout the day and night. City buses are cheaper but take longer than the more direct shuttle buses. Taxis are the alternative. Buses and taxis can take anything between 30 and 50 minutes depending on the traffic.
On Foot
Most Dublin city break visitors are content to walk around the city. The city is relatively compact and the weather is rarely exhausting, making walking the best way of getting around Dublin.
Taxis
Metered taxis have a yellow sign on the roof and display fares and surcharges inside the car. Dublin taxis are relatively economical if shared between four people and are useful for returning to the hotel late at night. Extra surcharge for the airport. Phone for private cabs and agree the price beforehand. Find a taxi at O'Connell Street, Dame Street and Stephen's Green. However, a long wait for taxis at night means many late-night revellers decide to walk.
Bus
Dublin buses run to most parts of the city from around 6:00am until midnight. Nitelink night buses can be useful at weekends. You need the exact fare in coins. Buses can be slow due to the traffic but bus lanes are gradually improving the situation. Double deckers are good for cheap sightseeing.
Tram
The LUAS tram service has 2 lines which are fun to ride. The green line runs from St Stephen's Green to Sandyford in the south. The red line connects Tallaght with Connolly Station. Buy tickets on the platform.
Train
Longer city breaks in Dublin might include a trip to neighbouring beaches and suburban resorts. DART trains run along Dublin Bay with pleasant stops at Blackrock, Howth, Dalkey and Bray.
