Getting around Dubrovnik
Since the vast majority of Dubrovnik sights are in the entirely pedestrianised old city, most visitors will be content to explore on foot. Getting around Dubrovnik on public transport is basically a question of bus or taxi. Both buses and taxis are useful for connecting the harbour area with the old town and for exploring the attractive coastline of the Lapad peninsula. However, the majority of visitors will return home without having needed Dubrovnik public transport.

Getting to/from Dubrovnik Airport
Dubrovnik Airport is just 13 miles south east of the city. A taxi will take about 25 minutes. Buses connect Dubrovnik Airport with Dubrovnik. Buses also run to Cavtat on the coast. Several Dubrovnik hotels provide a free hotel shuttle to the airport.

Walking
The old city is thoroughly pedestrianised and is a delight on foot. The old medieval city is compact and picturesque. A favourite walk is along the original city walls. The tourist office organises walking tours of the old city. The main Stradun street is buzzing at any time of year. There are rewarding coast paths outside the city, and animated promenades around the marina, port and beaches.

Bus
Efficient Dubrovnik buses run from 05.00 to 24.00. Flat fare tickets can be bought from the driver or (slightly cheaper) from kiosks (Tisak). Dubrovnik buses link the old city with the suburbs. Buses 1A and 1B are useful for connecting the old city with the harbour area.

Taxis
Dubrovnik taxis should use the meter. If the driver does not use the meter agree a price before setting off. Taxis do not enter the pedestrianised old city. Dubrovnik taxis are easy to find at Pile Gate, Ploce Gate, Gruz harbour and the bus station.

Boat trips
Regular boat trips to the islands of Koločep, Lopud and Šipan. Evening cruises around the old city often include drinks and music. Plenty of small boats offer scenic tours. They leave from the old port and the marina. Boats also cross to the island of Lokrum opposite the old city. Water taxis run to Croatia beach resorts along the coast.

Excursions
Popular Dubrovnik city break excursions include Trsteno and the medieval coast resort of Cavtat. Worthwhile Dubrovnik excursions include the island of Mljet with its national park and monastery, and the medieval town on the island of Korcula. Long weekend breaks in Dubrovnik could easily include a trip to the charming Croatia beach resort of Cavtat.
