Medieval city walls
Walking the ancient city walls of Dubrovnik is a wonderful way to get to grips with the layout of the old city. The mile-long walk takes in over a dozen towers and five bastions. The complete circuit will take at least an hour. The walls were started in the 13th century and took nearly 200 years to complete. The 15th century Onofrio Fountains near Pile Gate are one of the city’s most popular meeting points and a great place to cool down in the summer.
Sights & Attractions
The medieval streets of the old city are packed with fascinating sights. The 14th-century Franciscan church and monastery has a Romanesque cloister, a curious museum of medieval pharmacy, and a superb collection of ancient manuscripts in a wonderful reading room. Admire beautiful churches like the 16th century Gothic St Saviour's Church and the Baroque Church of St Blaise. Dubrovnik Cathedral is a Baroque masterpiece completed in 1713. Don’t miss the important treasury relics and the archaeological excavations. Outstanding buildings include the 14th century Sponza Palace and the Rector's Palace with its beautiful courtyard. Other Dubrovnik attractions include the house of the Croatian writer Marin Drzic, the Maritime Museum, a photo journalism exhibition, and one of Europe’s oldest synagogues

Dubrovnik enjoys an exceptionally long holiday season so you will always find a pleasantly animated scene in the city’s huge choice of cafes and bars. Dubrovnik has some exceptional family restaurants and is known for its pavement cafes and al fresco dining. The Old City and the waterfront areas are particularly romantic. Nightlife is more about soaking up the late-night atmosphere of frequented streets and cafes than rocking discos, but the city does offer stylish cocktail bars, live music venues and some enjoyable late night nightclubs.
Boat Trips
The most popular Dubrovnik boat trip features the idyllic water taxi trip to the delightful small-town resort of Cavtat with its medieval Old Town and romantic waterfront promenade. Boats visit the peaceful Elaphite islands of Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan, and Mljet with its lakeside monastery. Water taxis run to nearby resorts like Lokrum.

Longer breaks in Dubrovnik will allow time to explore the picturesque villages and beach resorts of the Dubrovnik Riviera. Excellent sandy beaches at Zaton and Zupa Bay.
