Eiffel Tower (Paris)

The Eiffel Tower - An iconic masterpiece
The Eiffel Tower has become a global icon and the most recognisable structure in France, if not the whole of Europe. Originally a temporary monument built for the 1889 World's Fair, it has stood proudly over Paris ever since as a shining symbol of the elegance and romance that Paris has always exuded. Unsurprisingly, at over 1,000 feet in height, it dominates the Parisian skyline and is the quintessential sight to see for cheap city breaks in Paris. The Eiffel Tower, known affectionately as the 'Iron Lady' is the most visited paid attraction in the world and every year millions of visitors head to its summit for breezy views across the city and beyond.

The Eiffel Tower - An enduring romantic sight
Even during busy summer weekends when waiting times can be pretty lengthy, the panoramic views of the city are priceless. Even the coldest of hearts cannot fail to be touched by the twinkling lights of Paris by night, and an ascent to the top of the Eiffel Tower after dark has become a rite of passage for any self-respecting romantic. Climbing the Eiffel Tower can be done by foot via steps as far as the second level or you can take an elevator from ground level all the way to the summit. It is open each and every day and during summer, until 1am. Short breaks in Paris often spend longer here than planned as there is a wealth of things to see and do.

The Eiffel Tower- Dine with a view to die for
It is easy to escape the constant flow of people for a short while with gourmet lunch or dinner in one of its restaurants, all offering panoramic views. There are historical artefacts and exhibitions to view, an educational and activity centre just for kids and enlightening audio visual displays at each level. Take home a memento from weekend breaks in Paris from one of the Eiffel Tower souvenir shops, be it an exquisite piece of silver jewellery or a cheap scale model of the Tower.
