A: From 1st of January 2011 a City Tax has been introduced and is being imposed on visitors staying in Rome. The tax has been approved by their City Council, and has been brought in to provide additional funding towards improvement and maintenance of the city's tourist attractions. Charges will not apply to children under two years of age. Visitors staying in the city at 1, 2 or 3 star accommodation are expected to pay 2 Euros per night up to a maximun of 10 nights. Those choosing 4 or 5 star accomodation will be subjected to 3 Euros per night up to a maximum of 10 nights. It will be payable directly to the hotel and will be collected at end of stay.
