Florence Weather

Florence Weather - Wonderful spring and autumn
If you can avoid the school summer holidays, we recommend spring and autumn as the best time to visit Florence. Florence weather in early spring may see some rain but the city is imbued with an inviting, feel-good optimism. March, April and May generally experience maximum temperatures around 20º and 6 hours of sunshine. Late September and October can be idyllic: long, radiant, sunny days, average maximum temperatures still around 20º, and far fewer tourists. This is a gorgeously atmospheric time to visit Florence. Both spring and autumn city breaks will require a warm jacket for cooler evenings.

Florence Winter Weather - Escape the crowds
Winter in Florence is cold and can be wet but in many ways this is a fine time to visit the major sights. Winter city breaks in Florence have many advantages, particularly if you are interested in the city’s art treasures. Florence winter weather tends to put off the casual visitor, leaving museums and churches blissfully uncrowded. Winter is also a fine time to sample romantic Florence restaurants. Florence residents are understandably far more tolerant of visitors outside the hot summer months. Winter weather in Florence requires warm clothes for outside, and an umbrella. Florence rainfall is spread quite evenly throughout the year. Average weather charts for Florence show June and July are significantly drier months, while November and December are the wettest. Snow is very rare.

Florence Summer Weather - Hot and humid
If one thing is sure about Florence weather, July and August will be hot, with high humidity and average temperatures in the low 30ºs. Summer weather in Florence is ideal for romantic, al fresco dining and late-night pavement cafes but if you don’t cope well with humidity you really should avoid July and August. Peak summer weather in Florence can be exhaustingly humid for walking city streets. The main sights can feel crowded and many Florence residents leave the city in August. However, Florence weather often cools a little after summer thunderstorms, and in mid August with the first increase in rainfall.
