Glasgow City Breaks

Glasgow city breaks - Onwards and upwards!
Glasgow city breaks are more popular than ever! Over the past two decades, the ‘dear green place’ has re-invented itself as a prime short weekend break destination in Europe. A significant resurgence in the city’s economic fortunes engendered a new role as a centre for business services and finance which was showcased by the city’s status as European City of Culture in 1990. Gone is the grey and depressing image of a metropolis full of tenements and urban decay. Now, Scotland’s largest city is teeming with life; culture, history, nightlife and galleries.

Short breaks in Glasgow - Getting bigger all the time…
Situated on the River Clyde, in west-central Scotland, the city grew from the medieval Bishopric of Glasgow and the establishment of the University of Glasgow. A weekend break here takes you on a journey: from the 18th century and the Industrial Revolution, the surrounding region grew to become one of the world’s most prosperous centres of engineering and shipbuilding – where almost half of Scotland’s population, nearly 2.5m people – have been attracted to reside in the greater Glasgow conurbation. You’ll see why during a city break!

Glasgow city breaks - Shop until you drop!
A weekend break in Glasgow is manna from heaven for shoppers! The city centre is based on a grid system, similar to New York and Barcelona, on the north bank of the Clyde and at its heart is George Square. To the south and west are the shopping precincts of Argyle, Sauchiehall and Buchanan Streets which are known as the ‘Golden Z’; one of the most sought-after retail locations on the planet with the seventh highest shop rental fees in the world! The main shopping malls are the St. Enoch Centre and Buchanan Galleries, as well as the more specialised designer malls: Princes’ Square and the Italian Centre. Selfridges and Harvey Nichols are here too. Glasgow offer shopping city breaks at their best!
