Hofbrauhaus (Munich)

Hofbrauhaus – The spiritual home of Bavarian beer drinking
The Hofbrauhaus is a Bavarian institution and one of Munich’s must see attractions. It is a historic brewery and beer hall that dates back to the early 17th century and has been an essential part of Munich’s drinking culture ever since. It offers a great entertainment that is every bit as lively as a typical night out during the Munich Oktoberfest. On short breaks in Munich, you can make merry in the company of over 1,000 other drinkers in this huge place that comprises a large indoor beer hall, ballroom, restaurant and shady beer garden.

Hofbrauhaus – Infectious sounds of Bavarian brass bands
Beer is served in huge one litre steins and there is a wide ranging menu of hearty Bavarian fare to soak it all up, such as pork knuckle and Weisswurst sausages. An ompah brass band playing traditional Bavarian music keeps the atmosphere lively all night and although it is an incredibly popular tourist haunt, it is still frequented by a large loyal crowd of Bavarian drinkers. In fact, many regulars have their own reserved tables which they have sat at for many years. On cheap city breaks in Munich, you can soak up the culture of traditional a Bavarian folk evening in the Festival Hall which offers a hearty buffet, infectious music, dancing and of course strong ale by the barrel load.

Hofbrauhaus – Traditional Bavarian culture with an international flavour
The main beer hall features long oak tables that encourage a convivial atmosphere and a typical night at the Hofbrauhaus may see people from perhaps half a dozen different nations all sat at the same table. It is not an uncommon sight to see a full house swaying to the sounds of Bavarian brass band music, followed by a raucous atmosphere of dancing on tables and impromptu renditions of numerous national anthems from around the globe. Even for family city breaks in Munich it is an enjoyable experience, however during balmy summer evenings it can often be standing room only.
