Hong Kong City Breaks
Hong Kong City Breaks - An all action neon lit metropolis
Hong Kong is a bustling, vibrant, non-stop city that offers just about everything for a rewarding few days of sightseeing, culture and entertainment. It is in fact a former British colony made up of over 200 separate islands, with the vast majority of attractions centred on Kowloon, connected to the Chinese mainland. Many city breaks to Hong Kong are purely all about shopping and even the most dedicated shopaholics will be astounded by the sheer number of shopping arcades and range of products on offer. The open air markets are a highlight that should not be missed and are probably the most colourful and noisy throughout Asia. Nathan Road is the main thoroughfare and epicentre of all this activity and a short evening stroll will experience a riot of neon lit colour, noisy karaoke bars and even charming Buddhist temples.
Hong Kong City Breaks - A city of spectacular attractions
Dotted amongst the towering skyscrapers are many spectacular highlights that every Hong Kong short break should experience. The most popular is without a doubt a journey up to Victoria Peak by the traditional Peak Tram funicular. Once at the summit, stretched out before you is one of the most photogenic views on Earth. Follow this with a leisurely cruise around Aberdeen Harbour in a sampan boat and dim sum in a traditional waterfront restaurant. Hong Kong has lots of interesting cultural centres and museums hidden in its teeming streets that feature Chinese archaeology, science exhibits, fine arts and even space exploration.
Hong Kong City Breaks - A multitude of sleepy offshore islands to discover
There are a number of wide open spaces on Hong Kong Island that are home to some fabulous entertainment and attractions. A night at the horse racing in Happy Valley is a noisy and colourful experience - Hong Kong residents love to bet and are very serious gamblers. Nearby is Ocean Park, a large funfair and water park complex that will keep active kids occupied from hours. Time permitting; a Hong Kong short break should include a trip to one of the 200 outlying islands that will provide a colourful insight into a more low key Hong Kong lifestyle. Secluded beaches, sleepy fishing villages and ancient temples offer a world of difference from the noise of Kowloon and makes for a fascinating day out.
