Jardin Majorelle (Marrakech)

The Jardin Majorelle is an impressionistic botanical garden located in a tranquil oasis right in the heart of Marrakech new town. Designed by French artist Jacques Majorelle in 1924, it is a veritable living, breathing natural canvas, featuring intricate landscaping and stunning use of colour. Small in size, it is a lovely spot to while away a few hours and the perfect sanctuary from the heat and chaotic pace of life. It is also a refuge for a dozen species of bird endemic to North Africa.

The painter’s former studio, decorated in a vibrant blue, is now the Islamic Art Museum of Marrakech and houses a comprehensive collection of North African artefacts. Browse hand woven rugs, ceramics, tapestry and jewellery and several of Marjorelle’s most famous paintings. It also houses many works of art collected by the fashion designer Yves Saint Lauren who was a major benefactor of the gardens.
