Kuala Lumpur Weather

Kuala Lumpur Weather - Year round fine and hot sunny weather
Kuala Lumpur has a year-round equatorial climate which results in warm and sunny weather with consistent high temperatures yet does receive plentiful rain. The city is protected by the Titiwangsa Mountains in the east which shields it from the worst effects of heavy winds during the monsoons. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year and can occur on as many as 150 days annually. Humidity can be high and nights are often oppressive with little wind. Many locals escape to the cooler higher altitude hill stations at weekends and holidays where temperatures are lower and more comfortable. The city is sometimes blanketed in a thick haze due to forest fires in nearby Sumatra and even some flooding is possible during particularly heavy downpours.

Kuala Lumpur Weather - Long days of unbroken summer sunshine
Summer weather in Kuala Lumpur is generally hot and dry with only the occasional spell of rain followed by an equally short period of cloudy weather. Daytime temperatures are likely to be hovering around 30c in July with 7 hours of often unbroken sunshine and this remains constant throughout the summer. Thankfully the Kuala Lumpur climate never sees really oppressive heat although humidity can be high. Either side of summer, in April and October, there is brief period of light variable winds as the season changes which brings some welcome relief from the heat and humidity.

Kuala Lumpur Weather - Warm and bright winter sunshine
Kuala Lumpur weather sees its wettest period during the winter from November to March with these two months in particular receiving extremely heavy rainfall. This is due to the changeover from southwest to northeast monsoons. Although heavy rain is certainly possible at this time of year, it is by no means a daily occurrence and a Kuala Lumpur short break can be enjoyed to the full regardless. Temperatures are warm at 27c with perhaps 5 or 6 hours of sunshine per day. In midwinter the probability of heavy rainfall recedes considerably with December and January enjoying the best winter weather with clear skies and fine sunshine.
