Milan Markets – Browse for unique gifts by the canal
The best of the lot is the Mercatone dell'Antiquariato del Naviglio Grande, a huge antiques market boasting over 400 traders. Situated on the banks of the Naviglio Grande canals, you will find lots of unique gift ideas such as traditional toys, jewellery, old books, weird and wonderful bric a brac and vintage clothes. It is open only on the last Sunday of the month, so plan weekend breaks in Milan accordingly. Fashionistas on a budget head to the vast Mercato di Viale Papiniano, which takes place every Tuesday and Saturday and is noted for its vintage clothes, second hand designer shoes and fake handbags. You will find some tasty street snacks and fresh produce here too.
Milan Markets – Plenty of local character and bargains galore
Dotted throughout the city are numerous other open air street markets worth browsing. There is the famous Brera antiques market, Sunday mornings at Piazza Cordusio for collectables such as old coins, jewellery and toys and the daily early morning food market at Piazza Wagner in the heart of the city centre. For something a little more colourful try the San Donato district market for ethnic gifts, fashions and Asian foodstuffs. Cheap city breaks in Milan will offer cheap shopping experiences with plenty of fun photo opportunities at every turn.
