Milan Weather

Milan Weather – Warm & pleasent summers
Under the Köppen climate classification the city is classified as having a humid subtropical climate. Milan’s winters – in contrast to most of Italy which is famous for a comfortable Mediterranean climate – are typically damp and chilly, while summers are hot and can be humid. City breaks are popular, irrespective of the weather, and average temperatures are -3/+6°C in January and +15/+28°C in July. The famous image of the city being shrouded in the fog has largely been eroded after the removal of rice fields from the southern neighbourhoods, and the reduction of pollution levels.

Weather in Milan - The ideal time to visit
The best times to visit for a short break are between April and September when holidaymakers can expect at least 6 hours of sunshine, increasing to an average of 9 in July. With figures associated more with coastal destinations, your Milan city break is almost guaranteed glorious weather during the summer months. Just to be safe, it is advisable to take an umbrella – especially in June, October and November when rainfall is historically at its highest – although it will probably remain in your hotel.

Milan Weather - Perfect winter short break
Of course, with so many indoor attractions, a short break in Milan is not spoiled by bad weather. The winters are cold and foggy so ensure cold weather clothing is in your suitcase before you travel. A multitude of cafes, bars and undercover shopping areas will shield visitors from the worst of the elements. Winter is the perfect time to visit Lake Como, just 40 minutes away by train, and the Swiss borders, only 50k by road.
