Montreal Holocaust Museum – A sensitive and evocative memorial
Located in the city centre, the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre offers a very personal viewpoint of the Holocaust in wartime Europe, and functions as an evocative memorial to the thousands of survivors who made Montreal their home at the end of the war. Small in comparison to many similar museums, it provides a telling insight into past and contemporary Jewish culture and offers visitors a colourful social history lesson. On cheap city breaks in Montreal, you will learn all about the complex history of Jewish communities in Europe and the rise of the Nazis through the eyes of survivors and renowned wartime photographers, writers and artists.
Montreal Holocaust Museum – Powerful images and personal footage
The museum displays over 7,000 objects relating to the bleak history of the Holocaust, including many evocative personal effects, photographs and documents. On short breaks in Montreal, you will be entranced by the powerful images of wartime footage and especially the very personal interviews of Montreal based holocaust survivors. There are almost 3,000 hours of archived film which offer a very human dimension and encourage visitors off all ages to question their own beliefs on cultural and religious diversity and tolerance.
Montreal Holocaust Museum – Insightful and thought provoking educational programs
The museum’s fundamental aim is to educate and preserve history for future generations and offers a series of supervised educational programs for school age children. Guided tours are available in French and English on request and activity packs are free for younger visitors. On Montreal weekend breaks, you may witness one of its annual commemorative events taking place, many of which are surprisingly upbeat such as Jewish cultural days and the celebration of Jewish holidays.
