Morocco City Breaks

Morocco is a great choice for a more unusual city break outside of Europe, with its warm climate and superb selection of captivating cities to explore. Marrakesh, Fez, Tangier and Rabat all provide excellent insights into this stimulating country, as well as many other smaller cities located throughout the Atlas Mountains and along the Moroccan coast. There is plenty to do on a relaxing break in Morocco, with vast markets known as souks dominating most of the city centres and endless variety of both traditional and international cuisine to be found amidst the winding streets, as well as impressive ancient monuments. Spectacular good value accommodation is readily available too, meaning that combined with an ever-increasing number of budget flights, Morocco is a good option for a cheap city break. 

 

One of the most popular Morocco city break destinations is Marrakesh, with its mesmerising combination of sights, smells and sounds which will transport you to a whole other world from the minute you arrive. Marrakesh is home to Morocco’s largest souk, meaning that with a bit of bartering you can pick up some unique bargains on a Morocco shopping city break to Marrakesh. A large number of striking mosques and palaces are spread throughout the city as well as expansive bustling squares and the ancient city walls allowing you to soak in the history and culture of the city on a short break to Marrakesh. Another popular Morocco city break destination located at the bottom of the Atlas Mountains is Fez. As the former capital of Morocco and its second largest city, Fez is comprised of three districts, including the UNESCO World Heritage walled city, Fez el Bali. The iconic Blue Gate and colourful tanneries are just some of the delights awaiting visitors on a city break in Fez.    

As well as Marrakesh and Fez, there are a number of other lively cities perfect for a Morocco city break or short trip. The Moroccan capital Rabat is situated on the Atlantic coast and thus benefits from a cooling sea breeze as well as an attractive coastline. Similarly, just south along the coast Casablanca offers a stunning coastline as well as the thriving Port of Casablanca. Tangier on the northern tip of Morocco lies at the western entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar allowing easy access by ferry from southern Spain. Tangier’s rich cultural heritage survives in much of its architecture as well as museums and galleries making it a great choice for those in search of a cultural or historical city break in Morocco.
