Naschmarkt (Vienna)

Naschmarkt – Filled with exotic eastern goodies
The Naschmarkt is Vienna's most historic and popular street market, having been at the centre of local commerce for almost 400 years. It is located over the old Wienfluss River in the district of Wienzeile and stretches in a long continuous arc for almost two kilometres. Originally a fresh fruit and vegetable market, nowadays the Naschmarkt sells just about everything a typical household could possible need. The fresh produce displays are still its most colourful facet, and now extend to a variety of exotic spices, tropical fruits and ready to eat goodies such as Persian caviar, oysters and sushi. On cheap city breaks in Vienna, you will find the Naschmarkt teeming with curious tourists just as eager to soak up its rich diversity and character.

Naschmarkt – Soak up the intense atmosphere
Today the Naschmarkt is a unique mixture of Austrian tradition and influences from the Orient and Middle East, and it has all the hallmarks of a typical eastern bazaar. It is a colourful place of discovery where you can sample delectable gourmet snacks and enjoy good humoured banter with eccentric market traders. Photo opportunities abound and there are many open air coffee houses affording a good vantage point to soak up its energetic atmosphere. Take time out during your short breaks in Vienna and do a little sightseeing among the market stalls. There are two stunning art deco houses built by celebrated Otto Wagner well worth exploring.

Naschmarkt – A Colourful weekend flea market
On Vienna weekend breaks, you can spend a fun time rummaging at Vienna's most vibrant flea market which is also held here each Saturday. It is a sprawling maze of tables and stalls selling everything from vintage clothing, trinkets and antique books. It virtually doubles the size of the Naschmarkt. It is a vibrant mix of the weird and wonderful, everyday home wares along with cheap tourist souvenirs and stocking fillers. It has an enchanting quality during the Festive season but is definitely worth browsing at any time.
