The weather in Riga is relatively similar to its Baltic neighbour Tallinn and St Petersburg in Russia: pleasantly mild summers and cold winters. Spring and summer weather in Riga is ideal for pavement cafes, relaxed sightseeing and walks along the canal. Perhaps the best time for a Riga city break if you want to avoid the biggest crowds is May, June and September, when average temperatures in Riga are fine for relaxed sightseeing and walking. Pack warm clothes for the evenings and something for rain showers. Riga rainfall is spread throughout the year and actually peaks in the summer!

Riga weather - Magical snowy winters
Riga average winter temperatures are low but the snow can be very attractive. From December to March expect temperatures around freezing….and sometimes much lower! Nevertheless, winter in Riga can be magically atmospheric, with picturesque snowy streets and cosy warm restaurants and bars. Come prepared and it can be a fun time to visit Riga. January and February are the coldest months. If you want to see Riga in the snow you should aim for December to March, although Riga weather has seen several warmer winters of late.
