Summers on this coast are not entirely rainless, and the fine, sunny weather is often interrupted by thunderstorms. Don’t let that put you off! In the main the summer weather in this part of Croatia is fantastic, with temperatures averaging above 20C from May to October, tipping 30C in July. Winter weather can feature a cold gusty wind, the bora, which brings cold air from central and eastern Europe down to the coast for a few days at a time. The wind blows particularly violently in the north of the Adriatic. Much of inland Croatia is mountainous or hilly, and winter snow lies for long periods in the higher regions. The average temperature during the winter months – from November to March – is still quite mild although winter rainfall here is heavy. Average daily sunshine is four hours a day.
