Toronto Weather

Toronto Weather - The finest climate in the nation
While most people's perceptions of Canadian winters involve images of icy rivers and constant heavy snow drifts, this doesn't extend to Toronto. It enjoys one of the mildest climates in the country and is in fact on the same latitude as Cannes on the sunny French Riviera. Its climate is moderated by the waters of Lake Ontario which produce warm humid summers and cold winters. Toronto weather is changeable throughout the year which can see rain at anytime or late season sunshine. Both spring and autumn are transitional seasons where rainfall is common and breezes from the Great Lakes will reduce temperatures. At this time there is likely to be alternating periods of dry and wet weather in Toronto.

Weather in Toronto - Warm and comfortable summer days
Toronto has a much more stable range of temperatures than most other cities in Canada with milder summers yet enjoying more sunshine on average. High summer temperatures can sometimes reach up to 35c although a high of 25c is more likely. In July around 9 hours of sunshine may well be enjoyed. A typical summer day will see clear skies and bright sunshine and its warm temperatures are moderated by lake breezes. Thunderstorms occur at regular intervals and the city is notorious for high humidity. Summer weather in Toronto is often affected by smog when visibility is reduced and hazy.

Toronto weather - One of Canada's mildest winters
Snowfall is certainly a possibility during a Toronto winter although there is little chance of experiencing the sub arctic conditions found in the northern reaches of the country. Irregular cold snaps do occur when temperatures can plunge to -10c but are rare for any length of time. In December and January temperatures hover around freezing with just 2 or 3 hours of sunshine daily. Rainfall is likely during the wettest months of October and November. Winter weather in Toronto may experience wind chill and transport disruption is possible during isolated heavy snowfall which can occur rapidly without warning.
