Trinity College & Library

Trinity College & Library – Elegant and refined Georgian Architecture
Established over 400 years ago, Trinity College is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe and on a par with many of Oxbridge's most famous colleges. Situated in the heart of Dublin at College Green, it is a vibrant and historic seat of learning for elite undergraduates, but is also one of Ireland's most popular tourist attractions. The university's main campus is set around charming quadrangles, and buildings such as the Great Examination Hall and the Chapel are fine examples of elegant Georgian architecture. On cheap city breaks in Dublin, you are drawn to the Old Library which features its most prized historical and cultural assets but it also offers visitors a vibrant program of visual art, theatre and science exhibits.

Trinity College & Library – An Amazing Collection of Priceless Manuscripts
A visit to Trinity College is inevitably focused around its quite astounding collections of books, which number over five million in total. The jewel in the crown is without doubt the iconic 9th century manuscript of the Book of Kells. In addition there are many lesser known historic books such as the Book of Durrow and the Book of Mulling. The dignified and hushed Long Room houses these treasures, along with a huge collection of Romanesque sculpture and personal effects from illustrious former students such as Jonathon Swift, Bram Stoker and several Irish Presidents. Short breaks in Dublin can also experience a little of life on campus by attending one of the myriad workshops and exhibitions covering art theory and science that take place most weekends.

Trinity College & Library – Take an Enlightening Guided Tour
Only a small proportion of the campus is open to visiting tourists, but it is more than enough to really get a feel its history and colourful traditions. On weekend breaks in Dublin, you should make the most of a visit with an engaging guided tour conducted by college graduates. There are lots of photogenic sights to record for posterity or why not make a night of it with a dramatic performance at the celebrated Samuel Beckett Theatre.
