The historic Bruges, with its canals, UNESCO World Heritage Site city centre and vast array of chocolate shops, is a connoisseurs dream. Whether your tipple is beer, Belgian chocolate, art history or the varied architecture of the Gothic period, then Bruges is for you. Traditional and contemporary, rich and luxurious, calming and breath-taking, however you prefer to relax, Bruges can accommodate.

Historical importance, incredible medieval charm

Small, but with plenty to see, you'll find a city packed to the rafters with things to do. Visits to the 13th century belfry are a must, or, if you prefer famous art, then you can see the sculpture of Madonna and Child in the transept, one of Michelangelo's most endearing and powerful works. The mediaeval buildings and architecture are breath-taking and well worth a view, however, with such a great local culture and a thriving city centre, you might find that relaxing in a coffee shop and watching the world go by is enough.

Easy to get to, number of enchanting places to stay

With Eurostar connections to Brussels, you can travel by train all the way to the centre of Bruges; and there can be few such romantic cities to arrive in by train. If you can afford it, it's worth staying in one of the many spectacular bed and breakfasts available near the city centre, and hotels sometimes offer deals that can make the city an even more attractive proposition in the low season, particularly spring and autumn.
