Brussels Getting Around

Easily accessed on foot

Brussels is a compact city that is best covered on foot, although it does boast an excellent public transport system which is easy to negotiate, and visitors are advised to take advantage of it. The country has a well-developed transport network with excellent national and international connections.

Metros & Trams

Many of the Brussels Metro stations are decorated with works of art. There are many of them, and most of which are accessible for disabled people. Also, brightly coloured trams weave throughout the city - both over and underground. The underground trains are called 'Prémetro'.

Train

The high speed railway network at the heart of Europe has links to major European cities, including Paris, Amsterdam, London and Koln.

Taxi

Brussels has an astonishing 600 taxi ranks throughout the city, so don't expect them to stop if you try and hail them in the street. It is also advised to check that the meter is on when you get in, and taking a receipt when you leave is a legal requirement.

Bicycle

Cycling is the most leisurely and healthiest way to get around the city on a short break. Bicycle hire and guided bicycle tours offer an alternative view of the city.

Motorways

Belgium possesses one of the most developed motorway networks, which also happens to be one of the safest, with lights along every motorway remaining illuminated throughout the night.
