Shops in Montreal are open all day from around 9am - 6pm with many open late on Thursdays and Fridays until 9pm in major shopping centres. Tipping & Etiquette in Montreal
Restaurants do not usually include a service charge on bills and most people reward a good meal with an extra 15% tip. Many eateries operate a 'apportez votre vin' or bring your own wine and corkage charges are rare. Tour guides, salons and hotel porters may well expect a small reward of a few dollars and taxi journeys should be given an additional 10%.

Montreal Food & Drink
Montreal was recently voted the 2nd best dining city in North America ahead of New York and offers a little bit of everything guaranteed to satisfy all tastes. Classic French cuisine can be found citywide and there are a myriad of Jewish eateries serving up hot salt beef and bagels for the perfect snack on the go. Typical Quebecois specialities include thick split pea soup and Poutine - an intriguing snack of French fries topped with cheddar cheese and gravy and served with chicken or beef.
