Poland City Breaks

A guide to Poland

Poland can be an interesting choice for a unique and budget-friendly weekend away in Europe. As one of the largest countries in Eastern Europe, Poland has a number of exciting and diverse cities, offering something for everyone. Warsaw and Krakow are popular tourist hot-spots, offering culture and history, as well as an insight into Polish city life, whilst some of the country’s smaller cities including Wroclaw, Poznan and Gdansk allow visitors to discover a different side of this fascinating country. An increasing number of cheap flights from the UK to several cities in Poland make this an increasingly convenient option, and excellent value accommodation, food, drink and entertainment all add major appeal.

Explore Krakow and Warsaw

Krakow, in southern Poland, is probably the country’s most popular short break destination, and with its striking traditional architecture, and vibrant cafe-culture, it’s easy to see why. Life here centers around the Old Town square, with bustling cafes on every side surrounding the central Cloth Hall, which houses a string of colourful market stalls. The nearby castle and cathedral are two of the city’s highlights, whilst a trip into Kazimierz will allow you to uncover some of Krakow’s hidden restaurants and bars, for superb evening's dining and entertainment. Alternatively, the Polish capital Warsaw offers visitors a faster-paced, cosmopolitan atmosphere, with a schedule of regular cultural events throughout the year. The impressive Palace of Culture and Science is Warsaw’s most notable landmark, while the carefully restored architecture of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town is a testament to the history of the city and its people.

More unusual city breaks in Poland

If you’re keen to explore other exciting destinations in Poland, then the country has plenty to offer. Wroclaw, in south-west Poland, is a dynamic and modern city with thriving arts and music scenes, and a range of cultural attractions into the mix, being well-known for its energetic nightlife. North of Wroclaw, Poznan is another up and coming destination offering value accommodation and being best-known for its annual Malta Theatre Festival in June and July. Finally, for those in search of hitting the coast, the northern city of Gdansk is a beautiful and easy-going option in Poland, close to several beaches.
