Sightseeing
The principal pleasure of Prague city breaks is strolling around the city taking in the incredible richness of the city’s architectural heritage, from the Gothic to Art Nouveau. Culture
Prague has a vibrant, varied cultural scene and an exceptional number of live music venues presenting everything from traditional folk to rock. Prague is particularly rewarding for classical music, opera and dance. You will find all things classical, from major concerts in the National Theatre to intimate recitals in churches. Prague also has a rich theatre and cinema culture. Black Light Theatre and the National Marionette Theatre are popular with visitors. Jazz fans will find outstanding clubs like Reduta, Jazz Club Zelezna, Ungelt Jazz & Blues Club and the Agharta record shop, plus frequent open-air summer concerts.
Shopping
Prague shopping is varied and enjoyable. Some of the most idiosyncratic shops are close to the Old Town Square. The area around Wenceslas Square is one of the busiest. Mornings are a good time for wandering around open-air markets like Havelska near the Old Town Square. Prague has several amazing antiques and junk shops. Try shops and emporiums in the Stare Mesto area like Bric a Brac, Starozitnosti Alma, Eduard Capek and the Art Deco Galerie where you will find everything from toys to handbags. Crystal and Bohemian glass are popular souvenirs as is Czech produce from superb grocery stores.
Nightlife
Prague nightlife is great fun and easy to find, whether a quiet drink in a trendy cafe, amazing cocktail bars, intimate idiosyncratic music bars, live rock, large glitzy discos or straightforward traditional Czech pubs for superb beer. Try the area around Wenceslas Square. For casinos try streets like Vaclavske namìstí and Na pøikopì.
Petrin Hill
The fine parks on the top of Petrin Hill afford wonderful views of Prague and provide a relaxing break from medieval lanes and tourist crowds. If you don’t want to walk take the funicular for the price of a tram ticket. Stop off at the Nebozizek restaurant on the way down for its garden overlooking the city.
