Shannon International Airport
Shannon Airport is just 3 miles from Shannon in County Clare. The airport is the major gateway for the legendary west coast of Ireland. Shannon airport is 15 miles west of Limerick, 15 miles south of Ennis and 55 miles south of Galway City. Regular buses link the airport with train stations in Ennis and Limerick.

Car Hire
Shannon is one of our few city break destinations where we would recommend hiring a car. There is stunning countryside to explore in every direction.

Bus & Train
Bus Eireann services connect Shannon with surrounding villages and towns. Buses connect Limerick, Tralee and Ennis with major Irish cities. Summer bus services include coastal beach resorts and Doolin for the ferry to the Aran Islands. Direct buses also run to Galway. Ferries
The Killimer-Tarbert Ferry across the Shannon Estuary considerably cuts travel time between Kerry and Clare. Short breaks in Shannon can also use local ferries to visit Scattery Island and the incredibly scenic Aran Islands. Ferries for the islands of Inismore, Inismaan and Inisheer depart from Doolin in County Clare. The journey takes about 30 minutes. A twenty minute ferry crossing will take you from Kilrush Marina to fascinating Scattery Island.

Cycling & Walking
Both cycling and walking are extremely popular in the west of Ireland. People are especially receptive of cyclists and walkers. Excellent information about waymarked routes is available from tourist offices.
