Amsterdam. The word is synonymous with hedonism, debauchery and tulips. Amsterdam’s laid-back vibe and 24-hour party atmosphere is a great incubator for a lively club scene. For pre-club drinking, head to the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal area, where there are a number of boisterous bars and small clubs including The Getaway, The Seymour Lounge and Club NL. Much of the nightlife in Amsterdam is to be found around the city’s main squares. Leidseplein is arguably the heart of Amsterdam’s nightlife, and the streets around Leissedwarstraat are filled with clubbers. Clubbing city breaks in Berlin
Berlin is not the most attractive city in the world, but it certainly has character. Decimated in WWII, Berlin was completely re-built in Soviet-style concrete and at first glance looks somewhat forbidding. Since the war, the city has sought to find its voice and personality, and an exciting, anarchic counter-culture has sprang up, giving rise to one of the best alternative clubbing scenes in Europe. The Mitte district has a reputation as ‘the place to be’, boasting top venues such as King Kong Klub, Kaffee Burger and Weekend amongst others. Another area worth checking out is Kreuzberg, edgier and darker than Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain where some of the newest up-and-coming clubs can be found, including Club Maria or Spindler & Klatt. It’s important to note that Berlin’s nightlife is fairly spread out and many of the venues can be difficult to find, so some advanced planning is required if you don’t want to be wandering around all night in search of the perfect spot.
London clubbing city breaks
Arguably a contender for the best clubbing destination in Europe, London boasts hundreds of bars and clubs and can make for a great clubbing UK city break. The city is essentially made up of a number of small ‘villages’ which satellite central London, and each has its own distinct personality. It is hard to pin down any specific clubbing district in London, as the city is saturated with them, but one of the most popular areas is Soho. Shoreditch, Hoxton, Camden and Clapham also boast a vibrant club scene. Some of the biggest and most popular clubs you can go to in London include Fabric, Pasha, Ministry of Sound, Egg, KOKO, Heaven, Club Aquarium, Herbal and seOne.
