Bristol Things To Do

Bristol Zoo Gardens
A great activity for children and adults alike; the new Monkey Jungle at Bristol Zoo!
Come face to face with penguins and seals in their natural element at the award-winning Seal and Penguin Coasts. Other favourites include Bug World, Twilight World and the Reptile House and the children’s play area.

Shopping
Bristol offers plenty of choice from shopping malls to chic boutiques and independent stores; this is a shopaholic’s dream! In the centre is Broadmead, the city’s main shopping centre. On the outskirts of Bristol, The Mall at Cribbs Causeway is a complex with over 135 stores and over 17 cafes and restaurants, all under one roof. The elegant shops of Bristol’s West End, Whiteladies Road and Clifton Village are unmissable, ideal for those looking for designer clothes, antiques, jewellery, art and crafts.

SS Britain
A Bristol sightseeing trip must include a visit to SS Britain. Built and launched here in 1843, Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s maritime masterpiece was the world’s first ocean-going, propeller driven iron ship. After a life as a luxury liner, troop ship, cargo vessel and floating warehouse, she was abandoned in the Falklands Islands in 1937 and was salvaged in 1970, towed back to Bristol and now restored to her former glory.

Clifton Suspension Bridge
The world famous bridge was designed by the great Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, to span the spectacular Avon Gorge. A small temporary building on Leigh Woods side of the bridge contains displays and artefacts explaining the history, construction and maintenance of this world famous symbol of the city of Bristol. A visit here should be top of your things-to-do list on a city break to Bristol.

British Empire & Commonwealth Museum
This popular museum covers the dramatic history of Britain’s imperial past and modern-day Commonwealth. Over 500 years of history is brought to life using state-of-the-art presentation techniques.

The Red Lodge
This historic Elizabethan house has been modernised and restored several times throughout its 400 year history. Originally a lodge to the Great House where Queen Elizabeth I once stayed, the Red Lodge is often described as Bristol’s ‘hidden treasure’ and houses the Great Oak Room, one of the finest rooms in the West Country.
