Bristol Getting Around
Getting from Bristol airport…
Bristol International Airport serves the city of Bristol, and much of the south west of England, and is located 8 miles south of the city centre.
Railways
Bristol has two major stations:
Bristol Parkway is on the northern edge of Bristol, at Stoke Gifford in South Gloucestershire. Parkway was built in the 1970s to give Bristol a station running from London to South Wales, which passes just north of the city. It is within easy access of both the M4 and M5 motorways from the Almondsbury interchange and adjacent junctions.
Bristol Temple Meads is situated less than one mile south-east of the city centre, and is the main station for central Bristol. From here travel to York in the north; Taunton in the south-west; and Southampton, London and Cardiff.
Buses
There are 3 main bus companies that operate across the Greater Bristol area. They are First, National Express and Wessex Connect. They provide services around Bristol and to South Gloucestershire, while National Express runs coaches to London, Plymouth, Glasgow and Swansea. Megabus runs services to London, Newport and Cardiff.
Bristol Ferry Boat
The Bristol Ferry Boat operates water bus services – on a fleet of historic, yellow painted boats – from Bristol Harbour to the city centre and Bristol Temple Meads railway station. There are 15 landing stages throughout the length of the harbour.
Cycling
Despite being hilly, Bristol is one of the prominent cycling cities of England, and has a number of urban cycle routes, as well as links to National Cycle Network routes to Bath and London, to Gloucester and Wales, and to the south-western peninsula of England.
