Budapest City Breaks

A guide to Budapest

Budapest short breaks come with our highest recommendation. This exceptionally beautiful city is justly famous for its beautiful architecture, elegant boulevards, shady parks, magnificent bridges and romantic ambience. Add the magic of the River Danube and you have one of the most rewarding destinations in Europe, with Budapest offering two strikingly different cities for the price of one. Most short break visitors begin with the charming cobbled streets and the beautifully restored medieval buildings of Buda, where the car-free Castle District boasts outstanding museums and magnificent views of the Danube. Even the shortest of breaks will also allow time for the graceful tree-lined avenues and architectural curiosities of Pest.

Romance on the River Danube

Budapest is an especially relaxing destination. A series of magnificent bridges make for delightful walks between the sights of Buda and the attractions of Pest, and the cobbled narrow streets and colourful houses of Buda contrast wonderfully with the sophisticated shopping boulevards of Pest. Visitors can take in the vast Royal Palace, the Parliament Building, the Jewish Synagogue and the famous 19th century Chain Bridge. Sightseeing highlights also include the viewpoint on Gellert Hill and the superb Fisherman's Bastion castle ramparts, and the Danube and its bridges are beautifully lit at night.

Hot baths & high culture

Budapest short breaks offer a very enjoyable mix of old and new. Charming pubs and traditional markets rub shoulders with trendy designer shops and fashionable nightclubs, and there are elegant pavement cafes, outstanding Hungarian restaurants and glitzy old-style casinos. A cruise on the River Danube or a relaxing soak in the world-famous Turkish-era thermal bathhouses is essential. A busy cultural scene includes world-class classical concerts, well-respected music festivals and a lively clubbing scene.
