Getting Around Cologne
All the principal Cologne sights are within easy walking distance of each other. Efficient Cologne public transport includes buses, trains and a tram and subway system. Day (Tages), and three-day passes are available. The Köln Welcome Card, available from tourist offices, offers unlimited travel and reductions on Cologne attractions and excursions. Group day tickets for up to 5 people are good value.

Getting To/From Cologne Airport
Köln-Bonn Airport is just 11 miles south of Cologne. S-Bahn trains connect Bonn Konrad Adenauer International Airport with Hauptbahnhof train station in central Cologne. A regular Cologne airport bus also runs to the city centre in 20 minutes. A taxi to Cologne airport will take about 20 minutes.

Walking
Cologne is a pleasant city for walking, with plenty of relaxed pedestrian areas, open squares and fine parks. Delightful walks along the tree-lined River Rhine. Most Cologne city break visitors will be happy to walk around the vast majority of the sights and attractions. Ask the tourist office about themed walking tours.

Light Railway/Tram
Cologne U-Bahn includes underground trains and overground trams. Buy tickets before travel. The U-Bahn is useful for Cologne sights, the main Rudolfplatz shopping square and nightlife in the Univiertel neighbourhood. The number 13 circles the inner city and is particularly useful for visiting top Cologne sights and attractions.

Bus
Buses are a cheap and convenient way of getting around Cologne. Buy tickets from drivers or machines on the bus.

Taxis
Cologne taxis are easy to find and are metered. Night prices are quite expensive.

Chairlift
The chairlift departs from the zoo, crosses the river and deposits passengers in the Rheinpark. Good views of the Altstadt and the city.

Boat Trips
Cologne boat trips and cruises are popular from spring to autumn. Rewarding Cologne river trips include the excursion to medieval Zons.

Cologne Sightseeing Tours
Guided Cologne bus tours in English depart from near the tourist office by the cathedral. The Bimmelbahn tourist train leaves from Roncalliplatz beside the cathedral and runs to the chocolate museum, zoo and Christmas Markets. Also guided bicycle tours of the city.

Train
The city of Bonn is just 25 minutes from Cologne by train. Eurostar trains to Brussels have made overland travel to Cologne fast and convenient. The journey from London to Cologne will take about 6 hours.
