Granada Getting Around

Getting around Granada
The most picturesque parts of Granada must be explored on foot. If you wish to explore the modern parts of the city you may need to use buses or taxis. Ask at the tourist office about the tourist card that includes admission to top Granada sights and attractions and the use of key Granada buses and the tourist sightseeing bus.

Getting from Granada Airport
Buses link Granada Airport with Granada bus station, and stop on the way. Airport buses are not especially frequent so it may be quicker and more convenient to take a taxi. Granada airport is 10 miles west of the city.

Walking
The areas of the city of most interest to tourists are either pedestrianised or are made up of very narrow alleys and streets only accessible on foot. This is particularly the case in the wonderfully picturesque but hilly Albaicín neighbourhood. Large areas of the Alhambra area are delightfully peaceful for relaxed walking.

Bus
Several Granada bus routes cover the main tourist areas of the city but most are unable to penetrate the narrow streets of the Albaicín. Buy tickets from the driver. The number 3 runs from the bus station to Gran Vía in the city centre. Multiple use tickets are cheaper than buying several single tickets. Two buses got to the Alhambra, the 30 and 32, which both leave from Plaza Nueva. The number 31 connects the Plaza Nueva with the pretty Albaicín area.

Taxi
In common with cities like Malaga, Seville, Murcia, Almeria and Valencia, taxis in Granada are very affordable and easy to find. Granada taxis congregate at Plaza Nueva, and near the Alhambra. Granada taxis are allowed to climb the Cuesta de Gomérez to the Alhambra.

Granada Sightseeing Tours
Granada sightseeing buses tour the city and are a good way of rapidly taking in the major sights and seeing the newer parts of the city.

Ski Bus
The Granada Skibus connects Granada with the ski resort of the Sierra Nevada throughout the ski season.

Car Hire
Driving in the city centre is waste of time. Hiring a car in Granada is only useful if you are thinking of regularly visiting the ski resort or have time to explore the gorgeous mountain villages of the Alpujarras or drop down to the coast.
