Spain City Breaks
A guide to Spain
Short breaks in Spain are a great option for those travelling from the UK, with many budget airlines offering cheap flights to varied destinations across the country. Popular Spanish cities include Barcelona, Seville and Madrid, with many other smaller cities across both the north and south of the country perfect for just a few day's away. Trips are most enjoyable during the hot summer months, when the southern European climate is at its finest, allowing you to soak up the sun's rays and enjoy and the relaxed pace all in one.
Vibrant culture and world-class sightseeing
Northern Spain is home to Barcelona, one of Spain’s most popular city break destinations. Situated on the eastern coast in Catalonia, Barcelona offers the chance to experience the effortless charm and vibrant daily life of this iconic Spanish city. The unique architecture tells the story of the city’s fascinating artistic influences with the Gaudi masterpieces, La Sagrada Familia church, and Park Guell, just two of the numerous sights on offer. Madrid, the Spanish capital, is also a beloved choice for a short break, and boasts a cosmopolitan hub offering grand architecture, a wide range of cuisine and entertainment and a number of historic attractions, including the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral. Regular flights to both Barcelona and Madrid make both cities particularly accessible any time of the year.
Glorious sunshine in Southern Spain
While trips to southern Spain may involve a slightly longer flight, travellers will be rewarded with sun, sea and sand. Malaga on the Costa del Sol is a popular option for those in search of a truly laid-back option, with great shopping and fantastic beaches into the bargain. Similarly, Alicante on the south-eastern Costa Blanca is another good option, with the imposing Castle of Santa Barbara perched high above the city and the bustling city port. Alternatively, try heading slightly inland into the southern region of Andalucía for a relaxing time in Seville. Here, you will find the striking Cathedral of Seville, the intricate Alcazar Palace and the colourful Plaza de Espana, to name just a few of the city’s attractions.
