Jersey City Breaks
A guide to Jersey
Jersey, the largest and most popular destination in the Channel Islands, has a history and way of life unique to the British Isles. Noted as a haven for super rich tax exiles, the island has a distinctive Gallic charm that offers an authentic holiday experience without the need for a passport. You are as likely to hear the seductive sounds of the French language as much as English around the island, and patisseries and bistros in St Helier seemingly outnumber English pubs and fish and chip shops. As the only territory under occupation during the Second World War, the island can explore a wealth of intriguing wartime attractions and relics, such as the ever popular War Tunnels.
Action-packed fun in the great outdoors
Although measuring just nine miles in length, Jersey is a real family-friendly gem and the perfect environment for a relaxing or active weekend away. In addition to sunbathing on the golden sandy beaches that are the envy of many Mediterranean resorts, you can indulge in sailing and fishing, a wealth of exciting water sports, golf, mountain biking, horse trekking or tranquil nature walks through lush meadows and over rugged cliff tops.
Captivating history and unbeatable duty free bargains
Most short breaks are based around the delightful capital of St Helier or by the golden sands of St Ouens Bay. Getting around Jersey is a breeze and there is a multitude of captivating attractions, especially for lovers of history and nature, with the overwhelming favourite being the world famous Gerald Durrell Wildlife Park. There are the imposing fortresses of Mont Orgueil Castle or Elizabeth Castle and delightful rural attractions such as wine estates, sleepy craft villages and historic working farms. Thanks to its duty-free status, Jersey boasts excellent shopping, and esoteric specialist shops and high street brands abound in vibrant St Helier, with high-end jewellery and fashion accessories especially good value.
