Kuala Lumpur Getting Around
Getting Around Kuala Lumpur – Public transport
The main transport hub in Kuala Lumpur is KL Sentral which is also the destination for train and bus services from the airport. The most comprehensive form of travel is the light rail transit which has several lines and is very efficient and inexpensive. Service frequencies are around every 5 minutes throughout the day. It covers most of the important points of interest in the city including the Golden Triangle, Bukit Bintang and Chinatown. Intercity trains also depart from KL Sentral station including direct services to Singapore and Bangkok. Car rental offices are located all over the city and prices are low however there is constant traffic congestion and parking can be difficult.
Kuala Lumpur Getting Around - Superb Value long distance buses
Bus networks are extensive and are operated by numerous private companies covering every major road in and out of the city. For longer journeys, the main hub is at Pudaraya Bus Station, which is close to Chinatown and destinations to every town and city in Malaysia have a number of competing operators with regular services and low fares. City centre bus travel is liable to long delays sitting in traffic. Taxis can be hailed in the street throughout the city and most are metered or can be chartered for the day. They will also transport you to any destination in the country if required and prices are very good value indeed for long distances.
Getting Around Kuala Lumpur - Enjoy views of the city skyline by Monorail
The pride of Kuala Lumpur's transport system is the efficient and convenient monorail. Opened in 2003, it serves 11 stations running over a 9 kilometre stretch of two parallel elevated tracks high above the streets. It connects the main public transport hub at KL Sentral with the upmarket Golden Triangle area and the central business district. A monorail journey offers wonderful views of KL attractions with many hidden architectural gems that can only be seen from high above the streets. Four monorail stations have interchanges with light rail commuter lines.
