New York Tourist Attractions
A short break in New York will only stratch the surface of its enormous sightseeing possibilities and vistors should seriously invest in a New York Pass which gives entry to over 40 well known attractions for $18.50 per day. These include the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and Museum of Modern Art. There are several other inclusive sightseeing tickets available from tourist offices and hotels. Most attractions open each day at 10am and close around 6pm with some of the major museums staying open until 9pm especially during high profile exhibitions. Average prices for attractions are between $6-$12 with a visit to Central Park Zoo excellent value at $8.00.

New York Opening Hours
New York retail stores tend to open later than in cities elsewhere in the USA at around 10am Monday to Saturday and 12 noon on Sundays. Most larger shops are open until 8pm with some flagship stores still operating until 10pm nightly. For late night conveniences, there are many drugstores and grocerys open 24 hours. A high proportion of New York bars have late licenses enabling drinking well into the early hours with a select few operating 24 hours a day. In general, central bars will invariably stay open until around 1am nightly.
New York Food & Drink
New York cuisine is known the world over and much of it takes its influence from a variety of sources - a testament to its rich multi culturalism. Whether its bagels, pizza, steak or cheesecake, there is a New York variety for them all and the New York diner experience is one that should not be missed during a city break in the Big Apple. New York street food is equally as compelling for visitors to the city with the ubiquitous hot dog, hamburgers, pretzels and fried chicken everywhere. Many New York neighbourhoods have strong ethnic links and delicious food to match. Brighton Beach in Brooklyn is known for its Russian restaurants or look out for the many Japanese sushi bars of East Village in Manhatten.

Tipping & Etiquette In New York
Tipping New York style is not an exact science and should be consistent with the levels of service you receive. As a general rule of thumb, 15-20% would be considered the norm at the city's restaurants with $1 or $2 gratuities for simple tasks from a hotel concierge or a car parking valet. New York is often thought of as an impersonal city yet its inhabitants are in general friendly and welcoming. The pace of life is nevertheless frenetic and will take some time to acclimatize to. Smokers should note that there are some fairly draconian anti smoking laws and even outdoors it is good manners to ask before smoking in front of others.

All new buildings offer ramps and wide entrances and the bus system is simple and stress free for the disabled traveller.
