Zaragoza City Breaks
A guide to Zaragoza
Conveniently located between Madrid and Barcelona, two world-class city break destinations, Zaragoza has developed from a stopping-off town between these two behemoths, into a fantastic city break destination in its own right. Perched on the banks of the titanic Rio Ebro, Zaragoza is the capital city of the Zaragoza Province, surrounded by lush meadows, forests, mountains and even desert, and makes a fantastic base for anyone wanting to explore some stunning scenery in Spain.
Modern city, steeped in history
Zaragoza is a modern Spanish city with a wealth of history, and those interested in culture will appreciate the Roman and Mudejar architecture found here, as well as spectacular historic sights such as the Cathedral La Seo and Aljaferia Palace. The city boasts a range of fantastic things to see in and do, many of which can be enjoyed for free or next to nothing, such as at the huge Parque Grande, with its many fountains and wide, open green spaces - a lovely place for a stroll. The weather in Zaragoza can get very hot, and as such there are a number of indoor and open-air swimming pools dotted around the city, ideal for cooling off. Anyone interested in going out in Zaragoza will find the area known as 'El Tubo' the most lively; a number of bars and cafes have sprung up here and make for a good night out.
Fantastic shopping and dining opportunities
The majority of the city’s central streets are lined with shops, while those looking for an extravagant shopping experience will find the most fashionable stores on Francisco de Vitoria, San Ignacio de Loyola, Cadiz, Isaac Peral and the streets crossing them. Once you’ve had enough of perusing the fantastic retail outlets the city has to offer, a must-try experience in the city is to sample some of the tapas on offer here. Zaragoza is famous for its many tapas bars, serving a huge array of authentic Spanish cuisine at very reasonable prices.
