Sweden City Breaks
A guide to Sweden
Sweden short breaks focus mainly on the beautiful, dynamic capital Stockholm, and the up-and-coming coastal city of Malmo. Both these popular destinations offer a thoroughly enjoyable mix of history and tradition, contemporary style, relaxed cosmopolitan atmosphere and superb sparkling coastal locations. Trips here feature appealingly attractive, highly accessible cities easily explored on foot, and the notably multi-cultural atmosphere gives both cities a unique buzz, with enjoyably relaxed and varied entertainment and nightlife. Visit traditional Swedish pubs and cafes, trendy nightclubs, and enjoy a vibrant live music scene that can range from salsa and samba, to African music and jazz.
Old world charm and easy-going atmosphere
With their charming historic sights, easy-going atmosphere, beautiful settings and lively multi-cultural atmosphere, it really is worth experiencing both these top Swedish destinations. As well as glorious scenery and terrifically varied nightlife, the cities boast plenty of history, art, architecture and culture, along with excellent shopping, quality dining and marvellously atmospheric neighbourhoods like Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s beautifully preserved Old Town, and the picturesque Lilla Torg square in Malmo. Visit the buzzing island of Djurgarden in Stockholm and the innovative Western Harbour redevelopment in Malmo for an excellent range of shops, cafes, restaurants, entertainment and nightlife. Short trips to Malmo can also sample the Danish capital Copenhagen, 30 minutes by train across the Öresund Bridge.
Year-round Scandinavian destination
Sweden is ideal for families with children, with excellent museums and attractions, charming markets, extensive waterways, plenty of beautiful boat trips and invigorating sparkling air. Summer enjoys long days of warm sunshine and beautiful light, and is the most popular time to come, however, it is also well worth considering visiting during the spring and autumn months, when the weather is mild enough for relaxed sightseeing and there are far fewer visitors. Snow and frozen canals add romance to the cityscape in winter.
