Malmo City Breaks

A guide to Malmo

Malmo features a historic port on the west coast of Sweden: a charming city full of character that will delight fans of low-key charm, cosy cafes and restaurants, relaxed waterfront walking and cosmopolitan, multicultural street-life. Part of the charm of Malmo can be found in its excellent ethnic bars and restaurants, and the colourful shops and markets of neighbourhoods like Möllevången, with an enjoyable café culture, and some of the best and most varied restaurants in Sweden. The city is a superb place to try goose, eel and Swedish smorgasbord, as well as every imaginable world cuisine.

Swedish charm and character

Visitors will focus on the charming old town: a compact area packed with fascinating architecture, that includes Scandinavia’s oldest Renaissance castle. It's a delightful city for those who like to walk, thanks to large pedestrianised areas, wonderfully atmospheric squares and markets, and beautiful parks. There are also canals to stroll along, a visit to the fascinating redeveloped Western Harbour district, and even swimming at Malmo’s surprisingly good sandy beaches.

Gorgeous squares, cafe culture

Summers will feature open-air concerts and pavement cafes on gorgeous squares like Lilla Torg and Stortorget, whilst visits here in August will coincide with the Malmo Festival, a feast of free street entertainment. A great choice of cosy restaurants, outdoor skating and a romantic winter atmosphere ensure the city is just as popular in the colder months. You can also cross the amazing Oresund Bridge, meaning a trip to neighbouring Copenhagen in Denmark, just 30 minutes away by train.
