Aberdeen Opening Hours
Shops and businesses operate standard hours in general with shops open from 9 or 10am until 5.30pm on weekdays and Saturdays. Sundays sees most retail businesses closed for the day although convenience stores and larger shops do open late mornings until mid afternoon. During winter, many shops are open for fewer hours, starting in mid morning and closing around 4pm. There are late night pharmacies open in the city through the year and central banks and post offices follow standard opening times. 

Tipping & Etiquette in Aberdeen
Most mid range restaurants and gastro pubs will already include a service charge on bills - usually 10% although this can sometimes be higher, so no further tipping is required. For establishments that do not include this, a figure of approximately 10% would be sufficient. It is customary for bar and pub patrons in Aberdeen to tip a small amount after an enjoyable night out and taxi drivers may well expect a little gratuity.

The culinary claim to fame for the city is undoubtedly the highly prized Aberdeen Angus beef which is renowned worldwide. These premium steaks are often served in sauces made from rare malt whiskies, rum and juniper berries and provides a meal of exquisite refinement. The fertile waters of the River Dee in Aberdeenshire produces a good supply of salmon and trout for city restaurants and are considered among the freshest tasting in the country. Seafood is just as inviting with haddock, herring and lobster often available. Beef and lamb dishes are also very popular and varied and the city is perhaps the best for its variety of tempting venison recipes which includes premium sausages, casseroles and even pate.

Disabled Access in Aberdeen

There are many streets in Aberdeen which are uneven and undulating which would be difficult to overcome for a lone wheelchair user, however there is an efficient adapted minibus service available for the disabled which should be sufficient for city centre journeys and can be arranged through major hotels. The compact pedestrianised shopping district holds few obstacles to wheelchair users and a good proportion of restaurants can assist with disabled diners. Some of the historic castles, chapels and natural sights around Aberdeenshire offer varying difficulty with access and comfort, however there are many organised guided tours to attractions which may prove less demanding.
