With duty free status, Dubai is also synonymous with upmarket shopping sprees, that are affordable and great fun. You can also enjoy browsing at the famous souk and gold market, which may just be the most hectic yet rewarding shopping experience you are likely to encounter.

Accessible history and culture

Just behind the glittering luxury facade lies its cultural heritage, best witnessed in the atmospheric Bastakia quarter. Here, you will see pretty 18th century wind tower houses lovingly restored to their former glory. A leisurely cruise on Dubai Creek by traditional abra boat is also a must, if only for views of the fabulous Dubai skyline, which is ever so romantic at dusk. Other intriguing sights include the soaring minarets of the Grand Mosque and historic Dubai fort and museum.
