Dubai City Breaks

A guide to Dubai

Cosmopolitan, lively and boasting an enviable year round sunny climate, it is not difficult to see the attractions of Dubai. While it may lack the evocative ancient sites of other Middle Eastern cities, it certainly makes up for it with an exuberant sense of fun, sheer indulgent luxury and plenty of exciting activities. Enjoy an exciting desert jeep safari, scuba diving, championship golf and even a night out watching camel racing. Kids in Dubai will flock to the Wild Wadi Water Park - one of the biggest and best in the world, home to an indoor skiing slope for winter sports enthusiasts.

A haven for shoppers and beach-lovers

Dubai has some of the most scenic beaches in the Gulf, which are all easily accessible from the bustling city centre. Visit picturesque Mamzar beach for fabulous water sports and beach games, or popular Jumeirah for its perfect sands and opulent beachfront resorts, such as the incredible 7 star Burg al Arab. With duty free status, Dubai is also synonymous with upmarket shopping sprees, that are affordable and great fun. Numerous state of the art shopping cities have sprung up offering the latest fashions and accessories, must have electronics and gadgets and much more. You can also enjoy browsing at the famous souk and gold market, which may just be the most hectic yet rewarding shopping experience you are likely to encounter.

Accessible history and culture

Just behind the glittering luxury facade lies its cultural heritage, best witnessed in the atmospheric Bastakia quarter. Here, you will see pretty 18th century wind tower houses lovingly restored to their former glory. A leisurely cruise on Dubai Creek by traditional abra boat is also a must, if only for views of the fabulous Dubai skyline, which is ever so romantic at dusk. Other intriguing sights include the soaring minarets of the Grand Mosque and historic Dubai fort and museum.
