The walled Old Town of Dubrovnik is regularly voted one of the most spectacular sites in the world, with its terracotta roof tops, old churches and timeless culture. There's plenty of history an culture to soak up within the old walls, from the 14th century Franciscan church and monastery, to the Baroque church of St. Blaise, as well as Dubrovnik Cathedral. St. Saviour Church, with its Renaissance sensibility of the past, defines so much of the look of the city. More modern pursuits on weekend in Dubrovnik might be the local nightlife, the new city and its boutique shopping, or even a trip along the coast to one of the famous beaches at Mljet. The airport at Dubrovnik is a short taxi or bus ride from the centre of the city, winding along the coastal road and allowing you to marvel at the steep cliff that drops down to the blue sea beneath.

Stunning setting on the Adriatic

You can spend the day sitting in the harbour entrance of the old town, and watching the boats bring in their catches from the day's fishing, or take a trip along the coast on a glass bottom boat, to see into the depths of the magically clear Adriatic Sea. Try eating seafood in any of the Old Town's many restaurants, with locally caught fish a delicacy that you'll remember for a long time. Some of the smaller towns that line the coast to the north and south of Dubrovnik have larger hotel complexes where you can while away the evening a stone's throw from the city itself.
